SSL or Https

Is there a method for hosting with a secure connection? I saw the ability to create SSL in the cPanel, but I haven't found a way to to host over a secure connection. I'm pretty sure it requires a different port, but I'm not sure my account is authorized.

Thanks in advance,
Bryce

Hi there - all you need is have a dedicated IP for your account and then you send support your CRT (purchased from a place like goDaddy), your RSA key, and the intermediate bundle and https will get installed for you.  Thanks for asking!  ~William

Just started my service (don't even have the domain transferred yet).

We don't have a cert, but would like to use a secure connection for our internal wiki. I can go to https://nnnsub.server.hostingrails.com/, but it's no longer showing me my public_html folder. Do https protected things live somewhere else?

Yeah that was a special situation that we set up for a client - you'll need a dedicated IP to run a SSL

You can also get free certificates from http://www.cacert.org/

I used one for a while and it does give you 'untrusted' warnings in some browsers, but if you're using an internal wiki it should be fine. Really it should be fine for anything, but the security warning might make people uncomfortable putting in credit card details (if that's what you're wanting SSL for).

Without a dedicated IP - isn't there a default cert for your shared ip services? I'd really like to use ssl / https with the service...

I'm sorry but I'm afraid we don't have shared cert on the server thet you can use. You'll need to purchase a dedicated IP to setup SSL access for your domain. Thanks

And - once you have a dedicated IP - you can use a self-signed CRT that won't cost you any extra (but you will get the annoying browser warning that the CRT is not trusted)

what if you self-sign a CRT and offer it to every domain on the shared IP ? I mean, for serious stuff a dedicated IP is the right thing to do, but if i just need some testing, I can't see the point in not doing it :)

I'm sorry it won't possible for us to provide CRT for every domain on shared IP.

HostingRails Support
Is this actually the reason, why webdav and secure webdav do not work with me? that I don't have a dedicated IP? i know, another topic, but still a problem for the forum :) thanx for answering guys!

Hi,

one year old post says you guys don't offer shared SSL.
Is it still true, or has something changed ?

thanks

Hi

You can use the server's shared SSL certificates for connecting to mail server as well as connecting to cPanel securely.  We still don't provide shared SSL certs for your site's uses. You can create a self signed one if you need.
