SSH Issue

I'm sure this is a local firewall issue....

I can't seem to login via ssh to my account from work. I can from home, and if I ssh out to an external machine from work and then to my account, I get in. When I try directly from my workstation, or any other machine on our local net, I get:

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

We are NAT'ed behind a firewall that has two internet connections, so I may be providing confusing info to the server.

Anything that you can think of that I can do about this, or am I just SOL at this location?

Thanks

Hi Snaga,

Usually this error message appears when your global IP is blocked at the server Firewall. You may need to get a support ticket open with your global IP to get it unblocked.

Support Team might be able to investigate on this and could tell you if that was reason for the block.

Thanks

Hello Snago -  it really shouldn't matter where you SSH to your server from as long as you use the correct password, or if you have keys set up you use the proper key - provided that you haven't already been blocked by DenyHosts. If that's the case, do as Kumar suggested and email support with any/all of the public IP addresses you need to connect from. That way your IP(s) can be whitelisted.

I'd suggest setting up ssh-keys for each box you use to SSH to your server. There's a tutorial here that explains the process. if you don't have ssh-copy-id (mentioned in the tutorial) let me know and I'll explain how to set it up manually. FYI I'm almost finished with a PuTTy/ssh-keys howto as well.

This did end up being a denyhosts issue, and in fact I just started getting denied again in the middle of a programming session, this time from home. I'll send my home ip address in to support.

Thanks
