Does mongrel is stable ?

I have to check everytime if my mongrel cluster is up ... it's not very cool ...
Sometimes PID file disapear ... sometimes i have to kill application and start mongrel ...

so ... does mongrel is stable ? Can we do fastcgi cluster ?
I have on a private webserver a rails website using fastcgi ... i don't have to restart it ... all work fine since one year ...

Any idea/suggestion ?

Are you using RMagick with your mongrel(s)?  That is essentially the only reason why we've ever seen mongrel processes die; large uploads and image processing can be the culprit.

Also are the monitoring scripts mentioned in your other thread not working to get your mongrels up in the event that they die?

no my survey script didn't start properly ... i'll check it ...
I use Rmagick, but only on the administration, and this night, no one work on it ... so mongrel down for no reasons ...

What does your mongrel.log say about the reason for the crashes?  Perhaps this is related to the caching issue you mentioned before.

hi william, what is a size of file that may make mongrel not handle properly? are we talking 1 mb, more than 5 mb?

I'm not sure, you'd need to test it. If fact, if you are able to find a repeatable way to crash Mongrel I'd be very interested to check it out so we can get to the bottom of this.
