mod_deflate or mod_gzip

Hi All,

Any chance of getting mod_deflate or mod_gzip enabled to reduce static file loads?

If there's a guide for this already, please let me know as I couldn't find one.

Cheers.

Hi Michael,
Welcome to the forums :)
Currently HostingRails doest have mod_deflate mod_gzip enabled on the shard servers.

Well, I was going to ask this :)
Would it be good for your guys at HostingRails, as for us, reducing the load on your bandwith ?
Cheers,
Mickael.

Edit: we do not grant requests to enable mod_gzip or mod_deflate.  The trade off for reduced bandwidth is higher server load.

Er... so I thought Sijin's reply was intended to convey that no, there is no chance of getting mod_deflate or mod_gzip enabled on a shared host.

Varun, are you now saying that there is a chance? Or is Micktaiwan not on a shared host?

A bit of clarity might be helpful here for other people visiting this thread. ie, "If any of you want mod_deflate enabled, then there's a good chance of this - please contact support"

From time to time we experiment with mod_gzip or mod_deflate on our shared servers with slightly tweaked stacks and let our clients give it a go - especially on newer servers.  However, the tests haven't generally gone well and so as a policy we do not have these mods enabled nor do we grant requests for them.
