mysql replication...

I was trying to setup mysql replication this evening (just learning more about how to setup).. and ran into fact that I can't make many of the changes to the my.cnf files (obviously b/c in a shared hosting environment).

I started to explore setting up unique .cnf files and trying to force usage... but then realized I will be constrained to start / stop databases...

Before I went any further, just wanted to ask is it even possible to setup all the configs in a shared hosting environment to setup replication?  Or is there ways to go around the various protections that are in place to prevent any cross user issues...

I just wanted to prototype some things in this environment for later putting on another box...

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
John

Hi

Yup, you are not allowed to restart the service on the server.

What are the configuration changes that you require ?
