Ubuntu 7.10 VPS Setup

It seems the minimal setup for this VPS is pretty much unusable at the moment as it doesn't have any nameservers listed, the /dev/null had the wrong permissions set (0600 instead of 0666) and I can't sudo because I cant get any permissions to any /dev/tty's (think this may be related to no nameservers or something like that, but am not sure)

If the basics (like internet access and sudo) were working I would be able to configure this box with out any issues, but for right now I can't.  :(  I tried finding some default nameserver information but was really able to, is this listed anywhere?

Thanks for the help!

Oh, and at first sudo didn't work because I didn't have a /etc/default/locale file, and then `update-locale` command to generate it errors out as well. So I just created an empty file (which is fine) myself.

We already had the name server 4.2.2.2 added to your /etc/resolv.conf to make the apt-get working for you. They seem to be replaced with worldnic name servers now. Also - please note this shouldn't affect your terminal settings. Have you tried logging in as root to install softwares ?

Thanks for the reply. I had tried logging in and installing software, but the machine could not get out to the internet, so apt-get failed. I also had tried adding hosts to the resolv.conf to try and get access, but that didn't seem to work either. Adding the 4.2.2.2 server does seem to work now, but it was not there before which is why I was asking if you had the default ones listed somewhere.

Thanks again for the reply!
