I am receiving spam on my email accounts. What can I do to limit the amount of spam I get? I enabled SpamAssassin but I have not noticed any difference.

Hello,
Please find below, the steps you can follow to minimize the amount of spam you receive to your Inbox using the features of cPanel:
1.You can discard mails to users mailbox that don't exist i.e.., disable catch-all. You can find the option in your Cpanel-
>Mail->Default Address. In the to: field - enter:
----
:fail: no such address here
----
2.Filter your emails. You can find this option in Cpanel->Mail->E-mail Filtering->Add Filter. By doing this, you can move u
nwanted mails to get deleted or moved to a seperate mail folder.
3.Accept mails from trusted senders only be enabling "BoxTrapper Spam Trap". This option can be found in Cpanel->Mail->BoxT
rapper Spam Trap
4.You can flag a mail as spam using SpamAssasin. This option can be found in Cpanel->Mail->SpamAssassin

Kumar,
Thanks for the reply. I enabled spamAssassin as soon as I setup the account with you all and I noticed no difference in spam. I was hesitant to enable BoxTrapper but after reading your post I enabled it and all I can say is WOW!!!! I no longer have to sift through the spam to get to my real e-mails. Box Trapper works great! I have one problem, I cannot receive e-mail that I send to myself. I have added my e-mail address in Box Trapper but it still doesn't send it to me. What is weird is that when I send e-mail to myself it shows up on my old hosting providers servers. What would case this?
Thanks,

re: SpamAssassin
I just enabled SpamAssassin, and I thought spam msg's are supposed to be marked and still get transferred.
I didn't use the "just delete" option.
Why then am I not getting the spams?
Of course, the reason I am concerned is not that I miss the spam, but that I cannot have false positives -- good mail deleted by SpamAssassin.
Aren't the spam supposed to be filed in a special folder?

OK, I see that a mail filter rule has been set up after enabling SpamAssassin.
It is set to "Discard" mail with at least "+++++" (5 bars); how do I set it to move the suspected spam into a special folder instead of just discarding?

Hi,
Spam box feature is enabled on the server. You can find this at your cPanel >> Spam assassin >> Spam Box
From the description of this feature:
"This feature allows emails identified as spam by SpamAssassin to be delivered to a separate mail folder named "spam". If this folder is not regularly checked and emptied, it may cause your email or file system quotas to be exceeded, resulting in a failure to receive legitimate messages. You can easily use IMAP or Horde/IMP to check messages that are routed to this box. If you wish to use pop3 to check the spam box, just add "/spam" (without the quotes) to the end of your pop3 login. (Example: user@domain.tld/spam)
This feature's use is generally discouraged in favor of sorting and deleting spam messages using your mail client. Without Spam Box you can configure SpamAssassin to mark your email with an identifying subject (e.g. ***SPAM***), which can then be filtered out into an appropriate location. "

[this is posted before I saw Sijin's entry]
OK, so I could replace "Discard" in the filter's Destination setting to an absolute path name like "/home/mail/folder" to move the mail, but instead of putting all spam to all users in a single folder, how do I file spams into each mail account's own spam folder?

There will be separate spam folder for each user if you use spam box.

Hi, Sijin,
Although it sounds like what I need, I don't see any features called Spam box in (any of) "cPanel >> Spam assassin >> Spam Box"...
Is it something newly added? Where exactly should it be found?

OK, now it is available. I enabled Spam Box, spam msgs are not delivered to my inbox, but I cannot find the spam folder; I went ahead and created a spam folder, but spam still isn't being filed there.
I've for now turned Spam Box off until I know where the suspected spam msgs will go.

Are you using POP3 to check your emails ?
If you wish to use pop3 to check the spam box, just add "/spam" (without the quotes) to the end of your pop3 login. (Example: user@domain.tld/spam).

If you are having problems getting email folders showing up when using IMAP in Outlook, try highlighting the Inbox, right click and choose "IMAP Folders" and then select "Query". Once it has completed, resubscribe to the folders shown.
Alternatively, uncheck the box labelled "When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders".
