I can't install a local version of hpricot because I'm jailshelled away from using gcc. Can I get it installed (either globally or inside my lib/gem directory?

I want to use snitch http://snitch.rubyforge.org as a subversion post-commit hook so that my co-developer and I can keep in sync. Unfortunately, it requires hpricot < 0.5 to avoid a bug in later versions:

Please try again freezing your own version of this gem, following the tutorial http://www.hostingrails.com/forums/wiki_thread/2
I have tweaked permissions a bit to to make sure you don't have issues with gcc.
