Very high server load

I brought up my site tonight and saw the 503 error.  I then restarted mongrel and then found the note regarding the server.  I completely understand that there are going to be times like this and the server will need to be restarted.  But what about the time between the reboot and me being able to see my site is down and restart mongrel?  I looked around at software like "monit" which monitor down services and attempt to restart them, but from my understanding I would not be able to install this program on my account.  What can I do to make sure my mongrel and site is responding?  What if I had been away for a few days, my site would have been serving up 503 errors until i was back?  Thanks for any suggestions on how to handle this.

Sorry one other important thing I should note is the edit is in my crontab to start mongrel on restart, but obviously it failed.  My question was more geared to a service going down and how to realize that and restart.

Hi Dankinit,

You can create a script that would help you to start the mongrel automatically, when the service stops. Please refer " http://www.hostingrails.com/forums/everything_else_thread/343#fpost27 ", to create the script and how to use it.
