Secure IMAP and certificates

I'm using Thunderbird, IMAP, and TLS to access my mail account.  I don't have my own SSL certificate so every time I start Thunderbird it tells me that there is a certificate problem.

Is there any way to deal with this without purchasing my own SSL certificate?  The error is quite irritating.

In case this matters, Thunderbird is running on an Kubuntu 7.10 box.

When you connect to the secure e-mail system, you may receive a certificate warning. This is because the servers "host name" does not match that of mail.example.com (where example.com is your main domain name) which is your mail server name. This isn't actually a security issue (as the connection is still encrypted), but some email clients do complain about this mis-match. If you are using Mozilla Thunderbird for email, you may want to use the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2131 "Remember Mismatched Domains" plugin.

That worked great. Thanks!
